UST’s Henry Sy Sr. Hall to Boost Health Education

Pursuing its objective of driving Philippine social development by fostering the youth and the culture of excellence through education, the Henry Sy Foundation, Inc. (HSFI) recently inked a partnership with the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Research and Endowment Foundation to construct a building that elevates health education in the country.

Named in honor of the late SM Founder, the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall of UST will rise on the main campus in Manila to respond to the needs of digital medical education.

The Hall will feature technologically advanced facilities and equipment that complement UST’s teaching, learning, and research practices. Focused on interdisciplinary collaboration in medical studies, it will also house the simulation and research facility of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (UST-FMS).

Paragons with passion

Fr. Richard Gaw Ang, OP, Rector of UST, thanked the Sy family as they work together to provide the best education to future physicians and increase UST’s research productivity to fill the gaps where communities are disadvantaged.

“Your family consists of industry leaders who have visions for the Filipino community. Your choice to support this endeavor of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is a significant stamp of approval to the work and tradition of this medical institution,” Fr. Ang said in a letter to the Sy family.

“Your family’s Patriarch, Henry Sy, Sr., had principles in life that we, as an institution, give our best to also follow. We aim to lead as paragons with passion, integrity, far-reaching and optimistic vision, sensible priorities, and discipline. At the core of this is a deep sense of charity for God, the church, and the nation,” Fr. Ang added.

UST’s future Henry Sy, Sr. Hall

Rising as an intellectual hub for future physicians, the building has a dedicated floor for the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery Research Center and the Medicine and Surgery Graduate Programs and Ethics Review Board. Here, medical education research and various medical-related specialty research will be reviewed and conducted.

The building will include specialized centers, rooms, and laboratories, such as Medical Simulation Centers and Care Ultrasound Institute, and Otorhinolaryngology Laboratory. These will be equipped with cutting-edge tools and technology to develop medical students’ competencies in multiple simulated healthcare settings crossing the human lifespan.

The HSFI is a non-stock, non-profit organization inspired by SM founder Henry Sy, Sr.’s desire to aid educational institutions to drive Philippine social development. Its projects are undertaken in partnership with the SM group and its foundations to honor the SM founder by supporting educational institutions in promoting academic excellence as a key to a brighter future for the youth. Through the years, the foundation established and supported several academic infrastructures, such as the Henry Sy Sr. Primary School Building in Xavier School, Nuvali Laguna; Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center in Miriam College, Quezon City; NU Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna; NU Nazareth School in Manila; and a Henry Sy Sr. Hall each at Immaculate Conception Academy, San Juan City, and Assumption College.

Leaders of Henry Sy Foundation Inc. (HSFI), led by the Sy family (L-R: Harley Sy, Hans Sy, Elizabeth Sy, Debbie Sy, Tessie Sy, Henry Sy Jr, Engr. Ramon Gil Macapagal (extreme right)) , formalize its partnership with the University of Sto. Tomas (L-R: UST Rector Fr. Richard Gaw Ang, OP, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Domingo, Fr. Angel Aparicio, OP, Fr. Maximo Gatela, OP)

Thumbs up! Leaders of the Henry Sy Foundation Inc. (HSFI) and the University of Sto Tomas during the Henry Sy Sr. Hall partnership signing.

Designed by C.A. Ventura & Partners, the upcoming Henry Sy., Sr. Hall in UST is envisioned to propel the health education of future physicians in the country.

PMPC announces nominees of the 38th Star Awards for Movies

It’s all systems go as the Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC) gears up for the 38th Star Awards for  Movies to be held in early 2023.

Founded in the late 1960s, PMPC is considered to be the pioneering group of entertainment media in the country. It is a professional group of active entertainment columnists, editors, writers, and bloggers/vloggers.

Buboy Villar Pays Homage To A Nurse’s Pandemic Journey In “Ang Kwento Ni Makoy”

A heart-moving story directed by HJCP and produced by Masaya Studio Inc.

Embark on an emotional rollercoaster ride as former child star-turned-comedian Buboy Villar stars in “Ang Kwento ni Makoy,” a film directed by Direk HJCP and produced by Masaya Studio Inc. Opening in cinemas nationwide on December 7, 2022, “Ang Kwento ni Makoy” highlights the story of an optimistic and compassionate nurse who is eager to lend a helping hand despite the struggles brought by the surge of the coronavirus.

Shot during the surge of the pandemic, the film comes from the point of view of a writer diagnosed with COVID-19, Ched Herrera (portrayed by Bella Thompson), who meets the outgoing Makoy (Buboy Villar), her father’s requested private nurse. Ched and Makoy eventually become friends, but they have different perspectives in life. Ched believes that “one needs to put oneself first more than anyone,” which greatly contrasts with Makoy who has lived his whole life in service of others. With their clashing opinions, Makoy is determined to change Ched’s perspective before she leaves the hospital. Will he be able to change her mind or would it all be in vain?

“The pandemic had a huge impact on our lives. During the lockdown, everyone was looking for that beacon of hope to continue moving forward. The main character, Makoy, embodies that and, through him, we are reassured that no matter what trials we live through, everything will eventually fall into place,” director HJCP shared.

Witness a different side of Buboy Villar in his latest comedy-drama, “Ang Kwento ni Makoy,” opening in cinemas nationwide this December 7. The Journey Towards #MeganBeautyWorld

The world is our runway. To be able to walk with grace and beauty, one must be clothed with confidence and strength to face every challenge the world has to offer. In doing so, the power it takes to be fearless in taking on the world is something that has to be done with all the will-power one could gather, including the confidence in being beautiful as you really are.

As Miss World 2013, Megan Young has been a catalyst of women empowerment through championing beauty with a purpose movement. In one of her Instagram posts, she said “I want to feel empowered with or without makeup and not be hard on myself”. On a random day, Megan Young was casually strolling along and discovered the products of Megan Beauty, and to share it with others, she featured it in her vlog. The brand caught her interest because it was in her namesake. She had bought a peel off mask, eye gel patch, and facial foam wash. Megan had the heart to share the products she bought as she thought it was really effective and had done the job right. Later on after posting the said video, Lifestrong Marketing Inc., the company behind Megan Beauty, chanced upon Megan’s vlog and figured she could be the new face of the brand. As a result, a lunch date was set and that’s when they got to know her better which proved sealing the deal was the right choice. Hence, Megan Young was made the new and freshest brand ambassadress of Megan Beauty.

The reason why Megan Young is the ideal representation for Megan Beauty is because of how she fits just right with the brand. Megan Young, as most of us know, is the first ever Filipina crowned as Miss World year 2013. Aside from being a beauty queen, she is a model, television presenter, host, vlogger, a diehard gamer, and a loving wife to long-time beau Mikael Daez.

Megan Young continuously lives up to the prestige that bears her name. As the newest brand ambassadress of Megan Beauty, she is now here to not just empower women from the inside out by making them feel beautiful, but also to embody confidence and be clothed with nothing but love of self-care. Megan once stated, “I always tell girls that I meet na as much as it’s great to become someone, make sure that your goal is to be the best you.” Undeniably, the beauty queen never ceases to inspire people of all ages with her wit and passion.
